how to improve your singing voice
If you're like most people, you’re probably wondering how to improve your singing voice in the quickest way possible. Most people seem to consider that a bigger range in some way equates to a better singing voice. I don’t necessarily agree with that idea but at the same time I don’t totally disagree with it either. A person that is capable of hitting the high notes can certainly be quite impressive to listen to.
To learn how to sing higher doesn’t need to take years. If you learn how to use your head voice then you’ll find you’ll be able to sing higher, with less strain than just singing from your throat.
Finding your head voice is easy. If you say the word “weeeeeee” for example, you can see how the head voice comes into play. Now I don’t mean that you should say “weeeee” in a big, deep, manly voice, but instead in a childish, silly way that you might hear a kid say it in the playground. You’ll know you’re doing it right when you put your hand on top of your head and actually feel the vibration of the word being said.
You may not be aware but by doing this little exercise, you have just increased your range substantially and removed the strain of the high note all at the same time. If you were to match the pitch of your saying “weeeee” by finding the corresponding note on a piano keyboard, then you will find that the note is quite a bit higher than one you would be able to sing by just singing from your throat. You’ll likely find that if you try to match that note by singing from your throat that you will have to sing quite a bit more loudly to do it, if you can even do it at all.
Another “how to improve your singing voice” tip would be to find your mix. Your mix occurs when you’re singing using your head voice but you pull your chest up into the note as well. The mixed voice is what keeps your head voice from sounding like falsetto which is generally weak. With a mixed voice the notes created by your head voice have power, only without the strain. Another added bonus to this whole idea is that helps you to control your pitch more accurately as well.
The mixed voice is a little harder to explain but I tend to think of it as support for the head voice. I find that if I hit any note in my head voice register then I can support that note best from my chest by breathing out. Not breathing out wildly mind you, but breathing out in such a way that the high note has power and volume. You will probably find that each note requires a slightly different type of breath so it’s something you need to figure out as you learn how to sing a song.
